Creating cost resources in MS Project Pro

Using cost resources you can describe costs of any level. To group resource costs, you can use the "Group" system column or create the custom field.

Using cost resources you can describe the following resources:

  • Financial cost types
  • Financial costs
  • Material group costs
  • Cost of materials
  • Equipment group costs
  • Cost of equipment
  • Cost per team of specialists
  • Costs per type of specialist
  • Specialist costs

Steps the add cost resources in MS Project Pro:

  1. Open the resource sheet view.
  2. Add new resources. (Read more "Add resources in MS Project").
  3. Set the type "Cost" in the "Type" column.
  4. Set the cost type in the "Group" column.

  6. You can create a generic cost resource by setting the "Yes" in the "Generic" column. You can use generic cost resource for planning total costs.

Steps to create a custom field to describe the cost type in MS Project Pro:

  1. Click the "Project" button in the top menu.
  2. Click the "Custom Fields" button in the "Properties" block.
  3. Click the "Resource" box.
  4. Select the "Outline Code" in the "Type" field.
  5. Select an empty field and rename it by click the "Rename ..." button.
  6. Set the list of values by clicking the "Lookup ..." button.
  7. Set the mask by clicking the "Edit Mask ..." button.
  8. Set the mask level and type of mask code in the "Code mask" block.
  9. Click the "Ok" button.

  11. Set the default value.
  12. Click the "Close" button in the "Edit lookup Table for Cost Type" window.
