Customizing the formula for the custom field in MS Project Pro

You can add the formula in the custom field. You can use fields of the plan and functions in the formula.

Steps to add the formula in the custom field:

  1. Click the "Project" item in the top menu.
  2. Click the "Custom Fields" button in the "Properties" block.
  3. Choose the type of field in the "Task" block.
  4. Choose the data type of the field in the "Type:" field.
  5. Select the custom field. After adding the formula, the old data will be replaced.
  6. Click the "Formula ..." in the "Custom attributes" block.
  7. Click the "Field" button and select the field if the plan.
    • Cost - cost data type. These are numeric fields with a currency symbol.
    • Date - date data type.These are date-encoded numeric fields.
    • Duration - cost data type. These are numeric fields with a date code.
    • Flag - field with values: "Yes" or "No".
    • ID/Code - field with code symbols.
    • Number - numeric field.
    • Project - fields with the project data. Fields group by: date, number, text.
    • Text - text field.
    • Work - work data type. These are numeric fields with a time symbol. 
  8. Click the "Function" and select the function from the list.
    • Conversion - functions for conversion different data type.
    • Date /Time - functions for work with fields date and time types.
    • General - logical functions.
    • Math - functions for work with fields the numeric type.
    • Microsoft Project - functions for work with project fields .
    • Text - functions for work with fields the text type.
  9. You can add formula from other field, click the "Import Formula ..." button. 
    1. Select the project name in the "Project:" field.
    2. Select the field type.
    3. Select the field with formula in the "Field:" field.
    4. Click the "Ok" button.
  10. Edit the formula and click the "Ok" button.
  11. If you want to use fixed formulas for task and group summary rows, select the formula in the "Rollup:" field in the "Calculation for task and group summary rows" block.
  12. If you want to use formula for task and group summary rows, click the "Use formula" box in the "Calculation for task and group summary rows" block .
  13. If you use the assigment rows, click the "Roll down unless manually entered" box in the "Calculation for assignment entered" block.
  14. Click the "Ok" button in the "Custom Fields" window.
