Using the products breakdown structure in MS Project Pro
To control the completeness of the project description, a tool such as a product breakdown structure (PBS) is used. You can describe the product of the project in a custom column.
Using this column, you can check the completeness of the description of the process of creating each product of the project.
Steps to use the product breakdown structure.
- Open Gantt chart.
- Add the PBS column.
- Open the couml menu.
- If you want to group works at products, click the "Group on this field" item.
- If you want to show or hide some products click some items on list.
- Click the "Ok" button.

Steps to create the products breakdown structure column in MS Project Pro:
- Click the "Project" item on the top menu.
- Click the "Custom Fields" item in the "Properties" block.
- Set the "Task" box in the "Field" block.
- Select the "Outline Code" type in the "Type" field.
- Select the empty row in the "Field" column.
- Click the "Rename ..." button
- Enter the "PBS" in the "Name" field.
- Click the "Loopup ..." button in the "Custom attributes" block.
- Click the "Edit Mask ..." button.
- If you want to add a new level:
- Select text type in the "Sequence" field.
- Click the "Ok" button.
- Add the items of the products breakdown structure in the "Lookup table" table.
- You can set the default item:
- Select the row.
- Click the "Use a value from the table as the default entry for the field" box.
- Click the "Set Defauilt" button.
- If you add a new item to a column, click the "Allow additional items to be entered into the fields." box.
- Click the "Close" button in the "Edit Lookup table For PBS" window.
- Clickt the "Ok" button in the "Custom Field" window.
