Managing people in MS Planner

In Microsoft Planner, the People view is one way to visualize tasks that helps you keep track of who on the team is responsible for what.

A project manager uses the People view to:

  • See what tasks other team members have.
  • Find a colleague with a similar task and contact them to coordinate.
  • Ensure that their work does not block others.
  • The view is actively used to manage the project team.

The People view displays tasks grouped by team member. This allows you to:

  • Quickly see what tasks are assigned to each person.
  • Assess the workload of participants.
  • Find task overlaps between colleagues.
  • Simplify communication and coordination.

To work with the “People” view in MS Planner:

  1. Open your project in MS Planner.
  2. Select the “People” view. The view displays a complete list of project participants.
  3. The number of tasks or hours spent on the project is displayed under the participant's name. To configure the settings, click on the “View options” link and select the desired format.
  4. To change the format of task cards in the “View options” window, select “Compact Mode.”
  5. You can show or hide completed tasks in the “View options” window by selecting “Hide Completed Tasks.”
