Steps to create a custom field for auto-configuration in MS Project Pro
- Click the "Project" item in the top menu.
- Click the "Custom Fields" button in the "Properties" block.
- Choose the "Task" in the "Field" block.
- Select the "Flag" in the "Type:" field.
- Select the empty field.
- Click the "Rename ..." button.
- Enter the "Variance" field in the "Rename Field" window.
- Click the "Formula ..." in the "Custom attributes" block. Enter the formula: "IIf([Duration Variance]>2;1;0)"
- Click the "Use formula" box in the "Calculation for task and group summary rows" block .
- Click the "Ok" button in the "Custom Fields" window.

Automatic the task bar style setting in MS Project Server
The steps to style the gantt chart:
- Click the "Format" on the "Grant Chart Format" tab, in the "Bar Styles" group.
- Click the menu item "Bar Style".
- Click the "Insert Row" button.
- The name of the element is displayed in the column "Name". For example "Task Variance".
- The element's style is displayed in the column "Appearance".
- Add the "Variance" field in the "Show For ... Tasks" column.
- Enter the "1" in the "Row" field.
- Enter the "Task Start" in the "From" field.
- Enter the "Task Finish" in the "To" field.
- To accept the settings, press "Ok" button.
