Critical path in MS Project Server
MS Project Server considers a task critical if it has no slack. However, you can always change the rule for finding critical tasks. Using the critical path, you can reduce the duration of the project, for this, reduce the duration of the implementation of critical tasks.
Steps to set up the critical path in MS Project Server
- Click the "Projects" item in the left menu.
- Select the project plan and click the its name.
- Select the "Tasks Schedule" view from the "View" field in the "Date" block. Its view uses the "Datally Gantt" Gantt chart format with a critical path.
- Use columns:
- "Duration" - allows you to adjust task durations and change project duration and project critical path.
- "Total Slack" - allows you to control the slack for each project task.
- "Free Slack" - allows you to display which of the tasks is critical.
- "Deadline" - allows you to reduce the overall slack for project tasks.
- You can change the critical path, enter the deadline date in the "Deadline" field,

Steps to set up critical path in MS Project Server:
- Click the "Server Settings" item in the left menu.
- Click the "Manage Views" item in the "Look and Feel" block.
- Clickt the "Tasks Schedule" view.
- Select columns: "Duration", "Total Slack", "Free Slack" and "Deadline" in the "Fields" block.
- Click the "Add >" button.
- Click the "Save" button.
