The timeline in MS Project Server is used to monitor a project. The most common timeline is used by company management for tracking purposes. The timeline configured in MS Project Pro is displayed in MS Project Server.

Steps to ad tasks to a project timeline in MS Project Server:

  1. Open project schedule. Click the "Projects" item in the left menu. Click the project name.
  2. Click the "Schedule" item in the left menu.
  3. Click the "TASK" item in the top menu.
  4. Click the "Edit" button in the "Project" block.
  5. Click the "In Browser" item.
  6. Select tasks.
  7. Click the "TASK" item in the top menu.
  8. Click the "Add to Timeline" button in the "Tasks" block.

Setting a project timeline in MS Project Server

Steps to set up a project schedule in MS Project Server:

  1. Open project schedule. Click the "Projects" item in the left menu. Click the project name.
  2. Click the "Schedule" item in the left menu.
  3. Click the timeline.
  4. Click the "TIMELINE" item  in the top menu.
  5. You can set up tasks style in the "Font" block. Select the task in the timeline. :You can change: a font task, a font size, a font color, a font style.
  6. You show /hide task dates (a task start date and a tas end date). Click the "Task Dates" box in the "Show/Hide" block.
  7. You show /hide project dates (a project start date and a project end date). Click the "Start & Finish" box in the "Show/Hide" block.
  8. You show /hide a today date. Click the "Today" box in the "Show/Hide" block.
  9. You show /hide a timescale. Click the "Timescale" box in the "Show/Hide" block.
  10. You can change the timeline periond.
    1. Click the "Set Date Range" buton.
    2. Click the "Set costum dates" box.
    3. Enter the period start date in the "Start" field.
    4. Enter the period end date in the "Finish" field.
    5. Click the "Ok" button.
  11. You can set up timeline date format. Click the "Date Format" button.
  12. You can lock changes to the timeline for other users. Click the "Lock Timeline bar" button in the "Actions" block.
  13. You can display task like a bar. Select the task and click the "Dispaly as Bar" button in the "Current Selection" block.
  14. You can display task like a callout. Select the task and click the "Dispaly as Callout" button in the "Current Selection" block.
  15. You can remove task from timeline. Select the task and click the "Remove from Timeline" button in the "Current Selection" block.
  16. You can change the task position. Select the task and click the button "Move Up" or "Move Down" in the "Current Selection" block.
  17. You can add a new timeline. Click the "Add" button in the "Timeline Bar" block.
  18. You can remove the timeline. Select the timeline and click the "Remove" button in the "Timeline Bar" block.
